High-pressure water jetting clearing a blocked drain

Drain Unblocking

Blocked sink, slow-draining bath, blocked toilet or an outdoor drain causing problems.

Most domestic blockages are cleared in a single visit using high-pressure water jetting or manual rodding — whichever is right for the situation. We diagnose before we act, and tell you if the blockage is likely to recur and why.

  • High-pressure water jetting
  • Manual drain rodding
  • Blocked sinks, baths, toilets and outdoor drains
  • Same-day availability on most jobs

Common causes we see every week

Fat, oil and grease build-up in kitchen waste pipes; wet wipes and sanitary products in soil stacks; leaf litter and silt in gullies; scale in older cast iron; and root intrusion in Victorian clay pipework. The cause dictates the method.

Jetting or rodding?

High-pressure water jetting scours the full pipe wall and is the right choice for grease, silt and scale. Manual rodding is quicker and gentler for simple obstructions and fragile pipework. We choose based on what the drain can take.

Stopping it happening again

If a drain blocks repeatedly, the blockage is a symptom rather than the problem. We can follow up with a CCTV survey to check for a cracked joint, a belly in the pipe or root ingress, then quote a permanent fix.

Signs Your Drain Needs Unblocking

A blockage rarely appears without warning. These are the symptoms customers describe most often when they call us.

  • An outside drain or gully filling up and overflowing
  • Sinks, baths or showers emptying slowly
  • A toilet that rises before it clears, or backs up entirely
  • Gurgling from waste pipes when another appliance drains
  • Drain smells around a gully, manhole or waste pipe
  • The same drain blocking again a few months later

How We Clear a Blocked Drain

  1. 1

    Locate the blockage

We open the nearest chambers and work back along the run to find where flow stops, rather than treating the fixture that happens to be overflowing.

  2. 2

    Identify the cause

Grease, wipes, silt, scale, a foreign object and root intrusion all behave differently — and each needs a different approach.

  3. 3

Clear it with the appropriate method

Manual rodding for straightforward obstructions and fragile pipework; high-pressure jetting where grease, silt or scale has coated the pipe wall.

  4. 4

    Flush and check flow

We run water through the cleared run to confirm it drains properly and that debris has been flushed away rather than pushed further along.

  5. 5

Tell you whether it will return

If the blockage cleared unusually hard, or the drain has blocked before, we explain why a camera survey is worth considering.

Unblocking, jetting or a survey?

Unblocking restores flow. Drain jetting goes further and cleans deposits off the full pipe wall, which is why it suits grease-heavy and recurring problems. A CCTV drain survey does neither — it finds the underlying cause when a drain keeps blocking, so the right repair can be quoted instead of clearing the same blockage every few months.
