Drainage Services in Poole

Poole's drainage is shaped by the harbour. Large parts of Hamworthy, Poole Old Town, Parkstone and the Sandbanks peninsula sit only a metre or two above sea level, and the water table there rises and falls with the tide. Drains that discharge into a system affected by tide-locking simply cannot flow away at high water, which is why so many low-lying Poole properties see slow drainage or gully surcharge at predictable times rather than randomly.

That high water table matters for a second reason. Where groundwater sits above the pipe, every open joint and hairline crack lets clean water in instead of letting foul water out. Infiltration like this fills the network, overloads pumping stations and steadily washes sand into the pipe, and it is the most common cause of repeat problems we find in the older harbour-side streets. Further inland at Canford Heath, Creekmoor and Broadstone the pipework is newer plastic on sandy heathland — structurally sound, but with shared private drain runs between houses and shallow falls that hold debris.

Because Poole mixes tidal influence, sandy ground and shared private drains, a camera survey is worth doing before any repair is priced. It tells us whether we are dealing with a blockage, groundwater infiltration or a structural failure — three problems with three very different fixes.
