Driveway Gully Replaced and Re-Connected in Dorset

Rainwater backing up from a driveway gully was traced to a broken gully connection and a dropped pipe run, both replaced and the paving reinstated the same day.

Completed July 2026

Excavated driveway with new gully pot and pipe connection being fitted
Before — Paving lifted and the failed gully connection exposed during the repair
Finished driveway with new channel drain and downpipe connection
After — New trapped gully and channel drain in place with the paving reinstated

The problem

Rainwater was backing up out of the gully beside the front door every time it rained heavily, running across the block paving and pooling against the brickwork.

What we found on site

The old gully pot had broken away from the downpipe connection and the short run beneath the paving had dropped, so water sat in the pipe instead of draining away.

Work completed

We lifted the block paving, excavated down to the pipework, fitted a new trapped gully with a flexible coupling onto a fresh length of pipe, bedded it on pea gravel and set a new channel drain and grate at the correct level before relaying the blocks.

The result

The downpipe now discharges cleanly into a sealed gully with a channel drain catching surface water, and the paving was reinstated the same day with no standing water since.
