What affects the price of unblocking a drain

- The cause — wipes and fat clear quickly with jetting; root masses, scale and collapsed sections take longer and sometimes need repair.

Call-out charges and fixed prices
Be careful with "from £X" pricing. Some firms advertise a low headline rate and then add a call-out charge, a jetting surcharge, a minimum hourly block and VAT on top. Ask for the total price for the work described, in writing or by text, before the engineer starts.

A booked, daytime visit to clear a slow or partly blocked drain is standard work. Emergency work covers situations that cannot wait — sewage backing up inside, an overflowing chamber, or no usable toilet — and is attended as soon as an engineer is available, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
We do not charge a higher rate simply because work takes place in the evening, overnight, at weekends or on bank holidays. The price depends on the drainage issue, work required and any agreed additional services, and is confirmed before work begins.
Why CCTV surveys and specialist repairs cost more
Clearing a blockage removes the obstruction; a CCTV drain survey finds out why it formed. A survey involves specialist camera equipment, recorded footage and a written report, so it is priced separately from a simple clearance.
Specialist repairs — patch lining, full relining, root cutting or excavation — depend on the length, depth and diameter of pipe affected and on access. These can only be priced accurately once the survey has shown exactly where and what the defect is.
