Drainage Services in Bettws

Bettws was built largely in the 1960s and 1970s on sloping ground north of Newport, and its drainage was laid as a separate system, with foul and surface water carried in different pipes. Concrete and early plastic pipework is typical of the estate, and the steep gradients down toward Malpas Brook mean surface water moves quickly, putting pressure on gullies and highway drains at the bottom of the slope.

Because the ground here falls sharply, sections of pipe laid at a steep angle can wear at the joints over time, while flatter runs at the foot of the slope collect silt and debris washed down from above. Older concrete pipe is also prone to surface degradation where it has carried aggressive groundwater, and blocked gullies after autumn leaf fall are a recurring cause of standing water on driveways.

Our work in Bettws starts with a CCTV survey to check the condition of concrete and early plastic runs and to establish which pipe carries foul and which carries surface water. Jetting clears silted lengths at the bottom of the slope, and localised patch repairs or lining deal with damaged concrete sections without disturbing driveways and shared parking areas.
