Drainage Services Across Bath & North East Somerset

Bath is one of England's most densely historic cities — a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the drainage beneath Georgian terraces, Victorian streets and medieval foundations is both architecturally complex and, in many areas, significantly aged. The drainage challenges across Bath and the surrounding North East Somerset area require an approach that accounts for the age and character of the building stock as much as the technical nature of the blockage or repair.

Much of central Bath still drains through Victorian-era combined sewers that carry foul water and surface water in the same pipe, so heavy rain off the steep valley sides can surcharge a system that is already running near capacity. Salt-glazed clay pipework of that vintage fails at the joints first: ground movement in the Lias clay and Cotswold limestone opens small gaps, tree roots find them, and silt and fat build up behind the obstruction. Outside the city, Keynsham, Midsomer Norton, Radstock and the surrounding villages add another pattern — off-mains properties on septic tanks and soakaways, where percolation through limestone or heavy clay determines whether a system copes or floods.

Because so many Bath properties are listed or in conservation areas, excavation is rarely the first answer. We survey first with CCTV, then repair from inside the pipe wherever the structure allows — patch liners and full no-dig relining protect period stonework, vaults, light wells and setted forecourts while still delivering a permanent fix.
