Redditch expanded significantly as a designated New Town from the 1960s, sitting on Keuper Marl and mudstone that holds water well and drains slowly after rain. Because so much of Redditch's housing dates from this planned expansion, drainage infrastructure across most of the town is fairly consistent, typically clay or early plastic pipework on separate foul and surface water systems, though now old enough that root ingress and general wear are becoming more common in the earliest phases of the New Town.
