Drainage Services in Bargoed

Bargoed developed rapidly during the coal boom of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, leaving long rows of terraced housing on the valley sides above the River Rhymney, mostly on original clay drainage laid to combined-sewer standards of the period. Later council housing from the mid-twentieth century added further pipework on the upper slopes, generally still clay, with more recent infill development using plastic pipe.

The valley's Coal Measures geology and history of deep mining mean some older streets have experienced gradual ground settlement, which can crack or displace historic drainage runs, and steep gradients from the hillside terraces down to the valley floor mean surface water can carry silt and debris into the sewers quickly after rain. Some outlying farms and smallholdings above the town rely on septic tanks.

Jetting clears the debris that steep gradients bring into drains, no-dig relining repairs displaced clay joints without disturbing narrow terraced gardens, and we can test percolation for rural properties on septic tanks.
